Where do we work? We work in the North-East of the second cordon of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, including the neighbourhoods of José Clemente Paz, Malvinas Argentinas, Merlo, Moreno and San Miguel. The area is of roughly 250 sq.mi, with a population of 1.623.500 inhabitants (Census of 2001) of whom 64, 4 % are poor. This population is characterized by a lack of healthy and adequate living conditions in their households, tools and infrastructures (streets, pavement, and sewage system) and areas dedicated to leisure.
What are microcredits?
They are small loans made out to borrowers with little available resources who are in no position to go through the usual ways of credit with banks or other common financing institutions. Why gas? In 1999 a report was carried out of the needs and doubts of the inhabitants of the Cuartel V neighbourhood which led to the conclusion that the neighbours were interested in exploring alternative ways to solve their infrastructure and services access problems. After weighing up diverse alternatives, natural gas was elected as the new goal to aim for.
The advantages of building gas networks: - Improves the quality of living for families by providing: hot water, gas heating, better cooking.
- Savings due to the substitution of more expensive combustibles (Cylinder gas costs between 4 and 10 times more than gas from the networks).
- Comfort and ability to forecast: no need to go and buy the gas cylinders or no risk to have a gas shortages or suddenly run out.
- Gas is an eco friendly combustible that reduces carbon monoxide emissions and other polluting gas regarding other combustibles (wood, fuel, coal, etc).
What is a Trust Fund? The legal feature entitled “Trust Fund” is used to link various entities acting in a project and striving for a unique goal. This tool permits to manage economic resources and dispatching them to a particular objective, making it impossible to be used for another goal or be used by a third party. It is an agreement that links, in this case, the beneficiaries (the neighbours), the administrators (FPVS) and the company Gas Natural Ban.
How are we financed? We are supported by our own resources, contributions from local and international philanthropy, public funds aimed at specific projects and loan aimed at operations of social investment or individual donors.
How can I get gas in my home? The gas projects of FPVS are based on a neighbourhood participation pattern made to extend gas networks to the neighbourhood. Each project must reach a 65% adhesion rate amongst the neighbours for the construction of the network to be viable. In the case that there is a project in your neighbourhood and if the external network passes in front of your house you can join the network easily and be provided the natural gas. In the case that there is a project to extend the gas network in your neighbourhood, but the external network do not pass in front of your house you can contact our office of Moreno by calling 02320-455604.
